  •  Serves: 5

  • Fresh coconut, grated – 3 cups
  • Sugar – 2 cups
  • Milk – ½ cup
  • Cream (optional) – 2 tbsp
  • Cardamom powder – ¼ tsp

Step 1: Take freshly grated coconut in a deep bottomed vessel.

To grate a coconut, pry the white meat from the brown skin. Take the white pieces of coconut and put them in a food processor and pulse it for 10-15 seconds.

Step 2: Add sugar and milk in the grated coconut.

Step 3: Combine well over medium flame until sugar dissolves completely.

Step 4: Keep stirring continuously for about 10-15 minutes or until the mixture starts to thicken.

Step 5:  Add cream and continue to cook over medium flame, stirring continuously to avoid sticking. After 20-25 minutes, the coconut mixture will start to separate from the pan.

Step 6: Cook for another 10-11 minutes or until the mixture starts to hold the shape.

Step 7: Add cardamom powder and combine properly.

Step 8: Prepare a greased plate lined with parchment paper and transfer the prepared dough. Give a block shape to the mixture and allow it to set for 10-15 minutes or till it sets completely.

Step 9: With the help of a knife, cut it into square pieces.
